We are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our Team.
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist will assess patients’ conditions, needs, and goals to establish effective therapy and treatment plans – then carry out treatment plans and communicate with patients and family, while being compassionate and sensitive to a patient’s concerns. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for empowering patients to participate more fully in daily tasks when this ability is compromised by a health condition. Occupational therapy is medically prescribed and involves skilled evaluation, treatment, and discharge.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Review patient’s medical history and assess their condition and needs.
Provide quality care by assessing and interpreting results from standardized testing, caregiver interview, and observation to determine treatment plans in coordination with physicians or prescription
Develop specific treatment plans for individual patients to help them meet their goals.
Utilize interventions involving foundational fine, visual, and gross motor skills to improve functional, vocational, and self-care skills to foster independence in activities of daily living.
Educate a patient’s family about how to foster growth and development to be more independent in daily roles and occupations.
Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records following each interaction.
Evaluate and treat a patient’s ability to complete specific tasks related to their daily roles and occupations.
Confer with physicians, patients and their families and other members of a patient’s care team regarding the patient’s specific treatment plan and goals.
Recommend and educate patients and their families on medical and adaptive equipment when necessary (mobility equipment, upper-extremity splints, durable medical equipment, etc.)
Develop a discharge plan and make referrals for additional resources when necessary.
Chart reviews and quarterly audits.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Doctorate or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
Must have current Michigan Occupational Therapist License and meet State of Michigan for Occupational Therapist Licensure and be registered and in good standing with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
CPR certification required.
Three years of experience in a pediatrics or clinical experience in a pediatric setting preferred.
Proficiency with computers, especially patient and healthcare databases
Must possess strong interpersonal skills for interaction with children, family, and team members.
Excellent coaching and verbal and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in an office/clinic environment with no unusual discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise or exposure to hazardous materials.
Regularly experiences (more than 80% of time) mental/visual fatigue.
Risk Category A - Job functions involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
